I took it in for service and they called the original buyer of the unit when it was bought 2 years ago. This was a small company that I worked for and it was a bonus of sorts. Any way he thought it would be awesome to take it. Microcenter said tough shit. Boils down that he buys a lot from Microcenter, so they side with him while I'm out of town and now I'm shit out of luck. I don't even know what to do at this point. They basicly told me to shove it up my ass :(

Ugh, SUPER shitty!
No insurance on the beast? I always covered things like that through my home owners ins.

Well, another company just gave it away, does that count?

do you have a receipt from when you bought it from that guy? thats pretty much theft.

Since you stole it, it's only fitting that it's gets returned to it's owner..

What are you talking about? I did not STEAL it. It was GIVEN to me as a bonus 2 years ago when I worked for a different company. I'm not understanding where you got stolen from. I have the receipt box, etc etc. Hell they still owe me money on top of that.

I'm really going after Microcenter, and then him for my lost wages they owed me when I quit. I figured I'd never get the $2,600 I was owed so I just let it go, but now he has stepped on my fucking toes and I'm gunning full force. You don't just take shit from me and get away w/ it.

Have you even attempted to call the corporate office? Usually you wouldn't have to go much further than that! I mean unfortunately you've lost your pics/data/projects/what have you, but they still might just replace your laptop for you. It really depends on the full true story about this.
But then again if you live in a state that you can't sue them for court costs they might just say fuck it let em take us to court...either way in the end we might/might not have to only pay for a laptop.
But if you haven't started with corporate...do it! And NEVER let the cops tell you that you can't atleast get a report on file for something like this. It doesn't matter if its a civil matter they can get it on records that you atleast attempted and have you fill out paper work to show this. Some might not believe it if you don't have that extra paper work. If it really belongs to you then in the end it's still theft whether it be on the companies behalf or the dumbass that wrongly took it.
What I'm wondering is if YOU took it in and they knew to get ahold of you after it was done...why would they have called the other person? I mean sure that other guy deals with them alot, but there has got to be more to this.

Any chance of being able to go over his head? As in, talk to one of his supervisors? Or his supervisor's supervisors? This works in government, not so sure in the private sector..

Why would they even call the previous owner in the first place? Businesses sell used eqipment all the time .. did the company put some sort of tag on it's S/N or something to flag it so that if it was ever brought in for service that they be notified?

sounds to me like: they didnt give you the $2600 so you decided to keep their laptop?

Welp, sounds like quite a mess, anyway.
You obviously have home owners insurance. Try filing a claim on it.
Depending on what type of policy you have, you should be able to get at least some sort of compensation for the theft factor.
I've done this before with a pc...said it was lightening that fried it. Had a friend who owned a computer repair biz. Got a quote from him, submitted it to the insurance co., check was in the mail.

Yeah the first thing I did was call Corp. They have already emailed me back at 8am this morning and I'm just waiting on a call back from the guy. I figure I'd let him look into it first as he seemed very helpful. And of course I'll still take the guy to small claims court if I have to. At this time I feel as if Microcenter is my best bet at getting it back.

Oh, He came in to pick up one of his computers and according to them, they said 'we also have a Mac in for service you bought here'. He then said that was also his and took off w/ it.

You might be able to complain and threaten lagel action against Microcenter, and ask them to give you a new macbook..

You said you have some sort of receipt saying it belonged to you now right? That is going to be a good thing for your side of the whole ordeal. But yes corporate would be the best place to start to deal with things. And if that fails then small claims. Did you contact the guy who has the laptop now?

I've spoke him, He wants to meet. And Microcenter wants all 3 of us to meet up. They are also turning it over to LP.
